Reading Fight DNA

What does a Fight DNA rate mean, and how much should I trust it?

What Fight DNA is — and is not

As stated on the product

“Not a prediction. Fight DNA describes what the record shows.” It is also not a grade: there are no letter scores, gauges, percentiles or “elite” labels.

Fight DNA turns a fighter's official round-level record into rates you can compare across fighters with different amounts of cage time.

Per-15-minute rates

rate per 15 = count × 900 / observed seconds
td_landed_per_15 = takedowns landed × 900 / observed seconds
Worked example · why rates, not totals
  1. Fighter A: 12 takedowns in 60 minutes of cage time.
  2. Fighter B: 6 takedowns in 15 minutes.
  3. Per 15: A = 12 × 900 / 3600 = 3.0; B = 6 × 900 / 900 = 6.0.
B lands takedowns twice as often per minute, despite half the total — but on a quarter of the sample.

Sample-size tiers

High8 or more5,400 or more
Medium3–71,800–5,399
LowBelow MediumBelow Medium
Insufficient—Withheld rather than shown as zero

Missing round coverage is never rendered as a zero. A blank is honest: "we do not know", which is different from "never happens".

Limitations

Rates describe past opposition. A fighter's takedown rate against lower-level opponents may not transfer to a step up in competition, and short-notice or weight-class changes add uncertainty the rate does not capture.
